The Applied Optics Center of L-3 Communication's Warrior Systems division offers a full-service optical fabrication and thin-film coating capability. Applied Optics Center (AOC) is the largest manufacturers of laser protection filters for the U.S. Military and specializes in advanced technology optics fabrication, filters and thin film coatings.

Our advanced coating facility offers a variety of deposition processes including Ion Assisted Deposition (IAD) for superior coating performance, durability and environmental stability. Our wavelength region of interest is from visible to the far infrared (300nm to 14 microns).

In a field requiring the most demanding standards of optical thin film coatings, the Applied Optics Center achieves those standards and has risen to meet new goals. Keeping pace with the rapidly changing requirements for precision band, edge placements, environmental durability and stability is a continuing process. Our design engineers and process technicians are constantly modifying and upgrading equipment to make today's state-of-the-art processes tomorrow's standard.

In addition to standard substrate materials common to many applications, we offer expertise in exotic materials to meet a broad variety of requirements, including: germanium, silicon, zinc sulfide, AMTIR, gallium arsenide, erbium glass, and sapphire.

Our premier capability is associated with our coating chambers. Volumetrically, these chambers are eight times the size of most common chambers and give the Applied Optics Center a competitive advantage in coating high volume custom optics where "slice and dice" is not an option. Very large optics can also be coated in these chambers, up to 24" diameter.

Custom Multi-Layer Dielectric Coatings are designed and optimized for production suitability. As the largest manufacturers of laser protection filters for the U.S. Military, we routinely manufacture multiple cavity designs containing 150+ discrete layers.
