L-3 Warrior Systems to Deliver Smaller, Lighter Precision Targeting System to U.S. Army
LONDONDERRY, N.H., December 13, 2016 – L-3 Warrior Systems – Insight Technology (L-3 Insight Technology) announced today that it has been awarded a $20 million production contract by the U.S. Army to deliver its Small Tactical Optical Rifle-Mounted (STORM) SLX system, a smaller and more lightweight version of its current STORM precision targeting system. With its integrated laser and rangefinding capabilities, operators will use the STORM SLX system for precision aiming, target acquisition and target/area illumination.
The STORM SLX transition to production is a milestone that recognizes the successful collaboration between L-3 and the U.S. Army’s Soldier Precision Targeting Devices program office to make product and performance improvements while reducing the size and weight of the current unit by one-third.
“Customers tell us the three most important design factors they care about are performance, weight and size, and we continuously improve our products to ensure we are pushing the limits of technology with their priorities in mind,” said Todd Stirtzinger, President of L-3 Insight Technology. “The compact size of the STORM SLX system provides greater utility for today’s warfighters, enabling them to use the system on multiple weapon platforms and decrease the overall weight they must carry, while increasing system performance.”
The STORM system is a battery-operated laser rangefinder (LRF) with integrated multifunction lasers and a digital magnetic compass (DMC). The LRF and DMC can be used in combination to obtain accurate positional information for targeting purposes and other tactical applications.
